I was trusted to “house sit”…

Hello and good day,

I was trusted to “house sit”, I have done this before but this was in my own house so everything seems a teeny bit different because there’s so much pressure to keep things how they normally are. Although, I am pleased to announce that everything is still standing but I’d like to present a list to all the things I have learnt whilst my parents were gallivanting in America.

  1. When doing household chores a bouncy and loud playlist is essential to get you through the tasks.
  2. If you have to take the dog to the vets at any point it becomes incredibly stressful, emotional and makes you wish you were a kid again because no one made you do grown up things like that. You also end up staring at her saying “I love you I love you I love you”.
  3. Having to constantly remember to sort some sort of tea out is very stressful. Credit to Mumma G as she always has that planned out.
  4. The carpet will look nice after you hoover it for approximately 43 seconds then you’ll get annoyed by something on it.
  5. Somehow when I’m acting as the adult in the house I have 10x more cups of tea than usual, which is impressive as I’m generally a big teapot.
  6. I now understand why my Mum is always running around doing something because every time I have sat down I have thought of something else that needed doing.
  7. The show 60 Minute Makeover, although wonderful watching, is complete lies because decorating my parent’s room as a surprise took a lot longer than 60 minutes.
  8. If you put a broken hosepipe down to fix a plant you just knocked over then I can guarantee you will more than likely get attacked as it starts flipping out everywhere.
  9. There’s nothing more satisfying than getting 3 loads of washing done in one day.
  10. If you forget to put the bin out the night before then there is a slight chance you will wake up with a fright at the slightest noise thinking “OH MY GOD THE BIN IS NOT OUT AND THE BINMEN ARE HERE”. If this is to happen, there’s also a slight chance that the time will be 5:37 am and the binmen will not be there yet.
  11. It is perfectly acceptable to buy a birthday cake when you have a stressful day.
  12. Hoovering is INCREDIBLY therapeutic.
  13. You feel an immense sense of “wow I’m an adult” when you get excited if you get 3 loads of washing done in a day.

I think everyone is amazed that the house is still standing, albeit a couple of fridge complications and a broken alarm clock later, but in all seriousness the key to coping with every house emergency when your parents are away is to have an amazing set of grandparents on hand at all times. They’ve been fab.

Now normality can resume and I can once again be a 7 year old.

Until next time,

Lia x
