The BEST things to do in Liverpool

Hello!

I have been to Liverpool many times in the past but have only ever been for a day trip which has revolved around Liverpool One or a hen do so I have never truly explored Liverpool for what it is. Recently, Jack and myself went for a night to Liverpool getting the train early on the Friday and came back Saturday evening so quite a bit of time to explore and enjoy all the wonders of the wonderful city. I’ve always loved Liverpool, I’m not sure what it is but there’s some endearing quality that it possesses and I was so happy to learn more about the wonderful city, there’s so many free things to do so there’s always something else to explore. In this post I’m going to cover some of the best things that I found whilst in Liverpool.

British Music Experience

I found this online and booked through Booking.com and got in for £10 per person and I was a bit apprehensive because I thought “you know that’s a lot of money if this isn’t that good” but paid it anyway because we’re really into music so both wanted to do it. It quickly became apparent that this was not going to be a waste of money, stepping into that building just separated you from everyone else. You explore decades of British music history with loads of memorabilia and holographic performances and there’s different instruments that you can play (even if you have no clue what you’re doing, I played Fascination (by Alphabeat) on the keyboard by following a beginner tutorial) and dance with tutorials. It’s just a different world in there and it was definitely worth every penny.

World Museum (and Liverpool Central Library)

These two locations are next to each other so it makes sense to do them in one go. I’d seen online that the Liverpool Central Library was a huge library and it was worth going to visit and I love libraries and books and everything to do with them so it was a definite yes. However, when I got there at first I was disheartened because although it was cool it was super modern which didn’t scream “library” to me. Until we found the Hornby Room and it was everything a library should be and had winding staircases to get to yet another level of books and it was full of natural light and so elegant. I felt very under dressed and more likely I should be swishing around all over the place in robes. Of course, this changed my mind on the entire library and now I think you should 100% visit it.

The World Museum is just down from the library and has 5 floors of many, many different artefacts and information from all over the world. I know that bit might be obvious given that it’s called the World Museum but I was surprised at just how much there was there. I really enjoyed the floor with the Ancient Egypt information on. Once you’ve explored enough for your brain to explode, you should visit the World Museum Cafe where you can sample probably the best carrot cake in Liverpool, you know when the frosting is just perfect and mouth-watering? I’d like another piece right now to drool over.

Museum of Liverpool

I was absolutely fascinated to learn all the history of the docks, and Liverpool itself. It is a city full of so much history and wonder and to truly understand it I think you definitely need to visit the Museum of Liverpool, it is honestly about a two minute walk from Albert Docks. I was so surprised to learn about the pages and pages of history that Liverpool has and I know that is a naive way to be but I think there’s probably quite a few people like this.

There’s also currently a John Lennon and Yoko Ono exhibition on the top floor which is pretty cool.

Albert Docks

There’s so many independent shops and coffee shops and souvenirs and it’s just a really cool place to chill at. Maybe not in the weather that we experienced as it was very cold and very rainy. But it is a lovely place to wander around.

Liverpool Cathedral

I think cathedral’s are pretty cool and I am so obsessed with all the beautiful and intricate stained glass windows that they have so we made an effort to visit one of Liverpool’s. Personally I don’t think you can really explain the magnificence of a cathedral, they’re just built like “ah wow that’s cool”. Anyway, take my recommendation and go and visit it.

There’s so much more to do in Liverpool and we had a brilliant weekend and I’ll definitely be looking forward to the next time I can go and wander around some more, maybe with better weather. Another note before I go though, if you’re looking for somewhere nice to eat then go to the Cosy Club! It’s reasonably priced but the food is out of this world and as the name suggests, it is very cosy and is a wonderful escape from the rain outside. Bag a window seat too so you can people watch for the entire visit.

Until next time,

Lia x
